Public Safety Appreciation Day in Delphi honors workers

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Firefighters, police and EMS work hard to keep us safe every day. Sunday was a day dedicated to them.

The first ever Public Safety Appreciation Day was held Sunday afternoon at Riley Park in Delphi. Carroll County 911 director Vicky Bluemke said the fees collected from 911 phone calls cannot be put toward public education.

She said the event Sunday helped them raise funds to be able to provide that on their own.

"You can't use those fees to teach children and adults about 911," said Bluemke. "So, our goal is to start a fund and be able to go out to the schools and the senior citizens center and places like that to educate the public."

Bluemke said they hope to host another event like this next year.
