Proposed annexations pass without a peep

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - More than 1,500 Tippecanoe County residents may soon officially call Lafayette home.  Not one spoke up against it Monday night.

The Lafayette City Council approved annexing three parcels of land on the city's east side Monday.  Both parcels with residents lie entirely within city limits, loosely bordered by Creasy, McCarty. Haggerty Lane and Veteran's Memorial Parkway.

The city held public meetings in March after the initial announcement.

A public hearing has been set for August 16 at 5:00 p.m.

If all goes according to plan, the annexing will become official in January.

Mayor Tony Roswarski said for most residents, the increase in property taxes is less than the cost of hiring trash services.

"We've worked hard to be open and accessible," Roswarski said.  "I think when people look at city services feel pretty comfortable with them.  There's still a process, people still have an opportunity to comment, but we are certainly moving down the road."
