LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Residents in the Orchard Heights Subdivision are getting some much needed relief.

That area has problems with water getting into the sewer in that part of Lafayette. The excess water causes the sewer to flood.

A rehabilitation project will reinforce sewer pipes, keeping excess water out. The $348,000 project covers the subdivision's 16,000 feet of sewer pipes.

Brad Talley, who heads water pollution control for the city of Lafayette, said the project would help reduce those flooding problems.

"It will be a more efficient system and there will be less potential for basement flooding and problems out in the Orchard Heights area," said Talley.

Talley said the project is being paid for with money from the Depreciation Fund. Talley said the project could start as soon as next week.

"It is a non-dig method that allows us to rehabilitate those pipes and keep the infiltration out. Therefore, reducing the water in the sanitary sewer and reduce potential problems with the houses in the area," said Talley.
