LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Homeowners at Benjamin Crossing called for a special meeting and set the date for Monday August 16. Their board told them they did not have the authority to set the time or place of the meeting.
Homeowners that were not satisfied with the current board signed a petition calling for the special meeting. They hoped to ask the board to step down at this meeting.
A letter sent by the H.O.A. board to the homeowners said,"...the Board denies that the homeowners have the right to remove directors."
The letter was sent out to all of those homeowners that signed the petition earlier this month.
Homeowners have said that the board is now obligated by law to hold a meeting.
"The special meeting should happen. By law they are required to hold the special meeting for the removal of the board members. Now they are saying we can't have the board meeting because we can't remove the board members," said homeowner Destiny Ruby.
Even homeowners that do not want the board to step down have said there needs to be a solution to the ongoing tensions.
"I do believe that there has got to be some middle ground at some level. There has to be some sort of calm discussion as to some solutions. There has to be solutions, that much I do know," said homeowner Rudy Skidmore.
Homeowners of Benjamin Crossing will hold an informational meeting on Monday night instead of the proposed special meeting.
