Principal makes head 'shiny' to encourage students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - All week, schools across the area are getting students ready to take the ISTEP.

But one local elementary school is making sure their kids really "shine" when they take the state-wide, mandated exam.

\Wednesday morning, Klondike Elementary School Principal Scott Peters made his head "shiny", getting it shaved as a, well, dramatic way to motivate students.

"We wanted to do something to really encourage the kids, but also to hopefully have some fun with it and take the pressure off of them. We didn't want it to just be a emphasis on passing, but an emphasis on the highest achievement possible,” said Peters.

ISTEP starts next week.

At Klondike, administrators have branded this prep week "ISTEP for success", and each day, they present a new theme to students to keep the excitement going.
