TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The area got some much-needed rain Thursday, but the storm packed quite a punch and left hundreds without power.
At least 200 area residents were without power between Duke Energy and Tipmont REMC.
A decades-old tree was knocked right over onto the power lines, snapping the utility pole in half on County Road 1000 South in Tippecanoe County.
"The storm was so loud we didn't hear the tree fall," said Emily Weisenberger who was inside her home at the time. "We may have heard it but it sounded like thunder."
The knocked out power to several homes CR 1000 South.
"It was kind of a shock," Weisenberger said. "My dad is kind of upset because it was here ever since he built the house so he's kind of upset with the storm. But it's going to be weird not having it there."
Crews returned to Weisenberger's home a little later to put in another power pole. The power was restored around 10 p.m.
Tipmont REMC reported receiving at least 145 calls Thursday night. Duke Energy had another 100 customers without power.
