LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Some potentially hazardous food was pulled by State Police Tuesday evening before it could be served to diners.
Troopers pulled over a refrigerated truck on I-65 carrying food to restaurants in West Lafayette and the Indianapolis area.
Police said the truck was pulled over because officers thought it was too heavy, but after investigation, they discovered the temperature inside the truck was too high.
The truck was carrying meat and dairy products.
Officers said a new law put into effect this year helps them get so-called "hot trucks" off the road.
“It gives the State Police troopers that are vehicle enforcement officers, as well as the motor carrier inspectors, the opportunity to stop the vehicle and check for temperature problems and to detain the load and the driver for the purpose of the inspection and to contact the health department,” said ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Ashley Kelly.
The driver of the truck could face criminal charges in Tippecanoe County. The case remains under investigation.
