LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A two-car crash in downtown Lafayette sends four to the hospital.

Lafayette police responded to reports of a stolen vehicle at the parking lot of Jerri Lee's Pub at 2100 Elmwood Avenue in Lafayette around 9:15 p.m.

Police said they tried to stop the vehicle near 13th and Harford Streets, but the vehicle refused to stop.  It ran the stop light at the intersection of 3rd and Columbia Streets, hitting another vehicle and sending it into a concrete pillar in front of the Tippecanoe Office Building.

Lafayette police said two teenage boys were in the stolen vehicle. They were treated for minor injuries and arrested. The names of these boys are not being released due to their age.

The driver of the second car, 31-year-old Damon Mathewson, was injured, as was his wife, 28-year-old Kenzie Mathewson, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Damon Mathewson is at Home Hospital and listed in critical condition as of 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.  Kenzie Mathewson was flown to Methodist Hospital and is listed in critical condition as of 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.

The investigation is ongoing. Pat Harrington said his office is reviewing reports of the crash. He said the office has seven days to file a waiver to move the juvenile driver to adult court. Possible charges include resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, and criminal recklessness with a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury.
