LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Police spent Wednesday evening searching for a person who ran away after a minor car crash.

Police said it was a person in the car that got hit who decided to flee.

Officers believe the person was hiding in a field near State Road 38 and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The search lasted for about 90 minutes.

Police called it quits around sunset.

Police don't know why the person took off or who he or she might be.

Officers found paperwork in the car but couldn't determine if it belonged to the person who fled.

The car has been released to the owner.
