LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The story of the police chase that ended in Brookston continues to develop this week.

Corey Kirts' mother asked police for help on Jan. 12. According to a case report and Affidavit of Probable Cause she told police he was out of control. On that day Kirts was arrested for resisting law enforcement.
Two weeks later he was involved in a high speed police chase.

At 20 years old Kirts has a list of prior offenses. Some include possession of marijuana, intimidation and invasion of privacy. Before Saturday's chase Kirts was arrested on Jan. 12.

In a case report Lafayette police write about how they went to Kirts' mother's home on Jan. 12 on N. 21st Street looking for Kirts. They had believed he was involved in two hit and runs and a threat involving a gun.

Police said his mother searched the home for him. She couldn't find him. Police sent a K-9 team in to look for Kirts. They found him in the attic of the home.

Police detailed how the floor of the attic caved in under Kirts. It left him stuck between the attic and the living room. That's where police handcuffed him. Lt. Davidson says Kirts' mother told officers she is afraid to tell Kirts to get help. She said she believed he will get enraged and destroy things. On that day, Jan. 12, police recommended she order Kirts to get help.

Kirts was released from jail on a $500 cash bond for that arrest. Tippecanoe Superior Court 5 Judge Les Meade said that is a typical bond set for a Class D felony.
