FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - The Battle of the Badges is back after a 24-year hiatus.

Saturday's basketball game between Frankfort's police and fire departments was the first since 1988. The event raises money for the Clinton County Cancer Association.

Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes was announcing the game, while fans, family, and friends cheered on the teams.

Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon said he is glad the departments have started the tradition again.

"The tradition of the police and fire classic dates back to the early 80s," said Bacon. "Unfortunately, the last time we played was 1988. The police won. We're trying to hold on to the trophy. It's a rather large one, but we haven't done anything for a long time. It's great the police and fire can get together and raise money for such a great cause."

The goal was to raise $3,500 for the association. As of tip-off, officers and firefighter said they raised more than $2,700. The police department did pull off the win, but barely. They won by a final score of 83-80.
