VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (WLFI) - Workers at a Veedersburg plant are fighting for the right to form a union. Employees at Flex-N-Gate, an automotive supplier, joined with union members with United Auto Workers (UAW) to demonstrate their concerns in front of the plant.
UAW members from as far as Fort Wayne came to help demonstrate. Demonstrators say the workers have safety concerns and do not feel they are getting paid enough.
UAW officials say it's necessary to help the workers who don't have a voice.
Mike Bennett / President, Local UAW 2317
“I feel I have an obligation to help those to be able to get what I got,” Local UAW 2317 President Mike Bennett said. “To be able to have a contract and a seat at the table, to able to negotiate with my employer for conditions of employment like wages and benefits, yeah, there is sacrifice involved in it, but I feel it's my duty to help out.”
News 18 contacted Flex-N-Gate but officials had no comment.
