RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) - An asphalt plant in northern Indiana will pay a 5,000 dollar fine after a Rensselaer man was killed at the facility in September.

47-year-old Ty Outzen died after a front tire on a wheel loader exploded as he was filling it with air at a Walsh & Kelly asphalt plant in Valparaiso.

State inspectors found Outzen had not been properly trained before the accident.

A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Labor said the settlement includes requiring Walsh & Kelly "to make major changes" to its tire-inflation operating procedures.
