Plans unveiled for city's first 2-lane roundabout

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette south siders got a peek at what will be the city's first two lane roundabout.

There was a public input meeting Wednesday evening.

It's part of major construction improvements planned for the next two years.

Phase one will create a two lane roundabout at Twyckenham Boulevard and Poland Hill Road.

Phase three will reconstruct Old Romney Road and create a two lane roundabout at the intersection with Twyckenham.

Phase two will add trails, lighting and pedestrian crossings between the two.

"Pedestrian traffic is so high in that area and unfortunately there was a death recently so the city really wants to improve this area with the trails and connect it to the master plan that the city has for the community," said Road Project Manager Carly Sheets.  "Additionally, the roundabout intersections are a lot safer for the pedestrians users as well as the motorists."

Construction is slated to begin next spring and is expected to take two full summers of work to complete.

The price is unknown because it hasn't been sent out to bid yet.
