GOODLAND, Ind. (WLFI) - Plans are moving forward for the construction of a new water tower in Goodland, Indiana. The old tower collapsed suddenly on the evening of November 7, 2011.

According to Town Council President Jim Butler, a new tower will be built nearby. Butler said it was cheaper to build an entirely new structure. The new tower will be located approximately one block south and a half block west of where the old tower once stood.

It's still unclear why the old tower collapsed. The new tower is expected to cost about $1 million. The town has closed on the new location and plans for construction are underway. Butler said the new tower should be up sometime this spring.

Butler said the Office of U.S. Senator Richard Lugar is helping the town apply for a rural development grant to cover some of the costs for the project that aren't covered by the town's insurance. The application has been turned in and the town is waiting to hear if it's been approved, according to Butler.
