Planning under way to celebrate 175 years

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - A 12-month long celebration is in the works for Logansport residents as the city turns 175 years old.

In preparation for the city's milestone anniversary, a local committee is organizing year-round events.

Steering Committee Chairwoman Lita Rouser said the festivities will kick off with Founder's Day parties on February 17, 2013. Logansport was founded on that same day in 1838. The parties will be held at local restaurants, bars, and homes.

Rouser said other events throughout the year will include Underground Railroad tours and 175th Anniversary parades and festivals.

Rouser said the goal of the celebration is to bring the community together.

"I don't think we always appreciate what's here in our own back yards. We're hoping that through this year-round celebration, people develop some community pride," said Rouser.

Rouser said August 31, 2012 is the deadline for businesses and organizations to turn in their lists of events. She said a final schedule with dates and times will be available early this fall.
