Pine Manor starts rebuilding

Construction begins on roof of destroyed building

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Progress is made on the Pine Manor apartment buildings Tuesday, as a new roof was put in place.

Hays & Sons Restoration General Manager Greg Kreinbrook said construction of the new roof is underway. Hays & Sons Restoration is handling the rebuilding efforts. The Pine Manor apartment building was left partially burned after a fire in mid-November. The building was later struck by lighting.

Kreinbrook said weather will play a large factor in the progress of construction.

"It (weather) plays a big factor. Obviously if it's snowing you can't really do much on the exterior. So once we get the roof on we'll be able to focus on the interior and weather won't be so much a factor," said Kreinbrook.

Sunshine Residency spokesperson Tammy Nelson said apartments should be ready for move in by May of 2011, if not sooner. Nelson stressed one important lesson from the fire: she said all renters should consider renters' insurance.
