Parents react to bus rollover

CLINTON CO, Ind. (WLFI) - It's the sound many parents fear when away from their children: the sound of emergency officials heading to the scene of an accident.

For many parents of Clinton Prairie School students Friday morning, the fear became a scary reality when Bus Nol. 5 was found in a corn field on its side.

"I had a feeling something was wrong, and it was the worst feeling in the world," parent of student on rolled-over bus Shelly Martin said. "The bus driver said hold on and Alyssa said she looked out and they were going through a corn field and she said 'this isn't the road,'"

"When I got there it was on its side and I was told and Michelle was told the boys were OK, but of course, I was pretty nervous until we got there," parent of student on rolled over bus Shannon Riley said.

Riley's two sons, a 6 year old and an 8 year old, were both on the bus when it rolled over. His 6 year old son suffered a fractured right arm.

Both Riley and Shelly Martin say they are pleased with the way Clinton Prairie worked hard to notify parents of the accident.

"I think they did well," Martin said. "When they called me and did not get ahold of me, they called my work."

Both Martin and Riley said when they heard the news, the fear of what could have been set in.

For most students, the injuries were minor. As for Shelly's 9 year old daughter, she went unharmed.

"She's OK," Martin said. "Thank God. I'm so happy. I'm just so happy."

With dozens of kids injured, parents are left with a lot of questions as to why and how this happened. We will continue to follow the story.
