BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A 73-year-old Indianapolis man is dead after a crash on I-65 in Boone County Friday morning.

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department, 39-year-old Elizabeth Russell was northbound on I-65 near I-865 around 6:00 a.m.

Deputies said she was traveling in the far right lane at a slow rate of speed because her vehicle had a flat tire.

A truck driven by 54-year-old Carl Jones struck Russell's car pushing it across a grassy area and into merging northbound traffic from 865.

That's when a second car, driven by 39-year-old John Barlow, struck the car on the ramp, killing 73-year-old Sterling Russell, a passenger in Elizabeth Russell’s car.

Sheriff Ken Campbell said the crash should serve as a reminder of the dangers of driving slowly on the roadway.

He said drivers should pull over and call 911 if they're in need of assistance.
