Off-duty reserve officer, firefighter help woman after crash

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A woman was found by an off-duty reserve officer after she'd been ejected from her car Thursday morning in Newton County.

The Sheriff's Office said it happened just before 11 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 114 and County Road 300 East.

Investigators said the driver, a 52-year-old Hobart resident, was traveling east when she ran off the road, overcorrected, crossed the other lane and crashed into a ditch.

The reserve officer noticed evidence of a possible crash and found the driver lying in the water outside of her vehicle. The officer, along with a firefighter who had stopped to help, cared for the woman until medics arrived.

Brook Fire Chief Kyle Conrad said the driver was taken to Jasper County Hospital with unknown injuries. The driver's name has not yet been released.
