Occupy protestors gather at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - About 30 students and members of the community gathered on Purdue's campus Saturday afternoon, to show their support for the Occupy Wall Street movements across the nation.

Occupy Purdue started with a rally outside of Mackey Arena. Protestors then marched down to the engineering fountain, where they held a meeting.

Those in attendance said they'd like to see more of a focus be put into education than sports and leisure. They also want to see a smaller difference in incomes across the country

"Even in the worst of the earliest stages of the 19th century, and so forth, I think it [the income gap] was never as bad as it is today," one protestor said.

"I think that we're getting a lot of exposure, by people who might not otherwise know that we exist," said Claire Fletcher, a student protestor. "And I think that we are causing people to think about these issues."

Organizers said the protest was also planned for Saturday, because December 10 is Human Rights Day, which was started in 1950 and is celebrated annually across the world.
