No smooches at National Same Sex Kiss Day

Planned protest is non-existent in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A planned demonstration at Chick-fil-As nationwide is non-existent in Lafayette.

All was quiet both inside and outside the location on State Road 26, although two Lafayette police officers served as private security Friday evening.

Wednesday was dubbed as Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day in support of the chain's president saying he supported the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman.

There was a movement online to make Friday evening at 8:00 p.m., National Same Sex Kiss Day at the restaurant, but no same-sex marriage advocates appeared.

"If it would have happened, we would have welcomed them into our restaurant," said Lafayette Chick-fil-A owner-operator Andrew Johnson.  "As long as they are not disrupting business and disrupting customers, we would be happy to have anyone here in our restaurant."

Johnson said sales Friday would be record-breaking, if it wasn't for Wednesday's sales totals.  He adds, sales on Wednesday were double the sales of opening day, and four times as large as a typical Wednesday.
