LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe County Public Library welcomed a new center into the family Saturday.

Greater Lafayette Commerce held a ribbon cutting Saturday afternoon in honor of the grand opening of the newly constructed Technology Center.

The center is meant for learning, research, and training. Guests at the ribbon cutting got to experience the center's features, such as the Digital Arts, Videoconferencing and Family Digital suites.

Brandon Hawkins, President of the Tippecanoe County Library Board, said the lab provides the community with some unique opportunities.

"We have the ability to produce music, we have the ability to create videos, we have the ability to take old vhs cassettes and transition them to DVD's, for family use," said Hawkins. "So, maybe some things that are outside the use of a traditional computer lab."

Visitors at the center can enjoy public computers, laptops and tablets, as well as printers, multiple power outlets, and free Wi-Fi.
