New holiday courthouse lights delayed

Tippecanoe County Courthouse won't get new lights

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - With the beginning of the holidays comes the untangling of holiday lights. However, the Friends of Downtown ran into a snag when trying to purchase new LED holiday lights for the Tippecanoe County Courthouse.

The Friends of Downtown started raising money to purchase the lights in April. Manufacturers couldn't guarantee their lights would work for the needs of the courthouse.

"What we decided to do was take three of the strands and put three different LED lights on those strands," Friends of Downtown President, Ken McCammon said.  "The rest are the regular incandescent lights.  We will see how those perform during the course of the season."

McCammon says they are still taking donations to purchase the strands and also multi-color lights to help change the color of the courthouse for various holidays.

All donations under $2,500 will be matched by the Friends of Downtown.

You can send donations to the Friends of Downtown, P.O. Box 402, Lafayette, IN 47902.
