WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Comedy clubs are vital to the comedy scene. They provide new comics with places to work out their material and they provide places for veteran comics to tell their standard jokes.
Jester's Comedy Club General Manager John Payne said the club is the first of its kind in West Lafayette, and he's excited about the opportunities for the club.
"There's not been a comedy scene here, " Payne said. "We actually want to have a full-time comedy club. "
Young comedian Brent Terhune said Jester's will provide the area with a place to go and do what everyone enjoys doing, laughing.
"You get to hear someone's story on stage ," Terhune said. "That's what's important, because you get to see life through their eyes. "
Kevin Ruble , a comedian who has traveled from one side of the country to the other, thinks Jester's will provide a unique opportunity for comedians just starting in West Lafayette.
"I think the key to comedy is, start as early as you can, " Ruble said. "Stick with it as long as you can, forever. "
However, Jester's is trying to be much more than a comedy club.
"We're going to do things like our own fantasy football league, " Payne said. "An indoor corn hole tournament, a card night, karaoke night. "
Jester's is located at 402 Brown Street in West Lafayette. They are open for comedy acts Thursday through Saturday nights, 7:30 to midnight, with live bands following the comedy acts.
