WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Muslim Student Association is holding Islamic awareness week this week on Purdue's campus, and Friday is the last day participate.
Organizers said the week-long series of events helps to bridge the gap between students of different faiths and inform the public on the beliefs of the Islamic faith.
The event offers free food, free informational DVDs and pamphlets to the public.
The Community service coordinator of the Muslim student association said the event isn't designed to preach or push Islam, but rather to educate people and convey a positive message from Muslims in the community.
"There's a lot of backlash from the actions of other Muslims that has been going around the world," Muslim Student Association's Omer Hassan said. "We want to show that's not the belief of the majority of Muslims or even Islam in general. The religion itself does not preach any of that, so we want to show that faith."
The event's tent is set up in Memorial Mall and will be open until 3 p.m. through this Friday.
