LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s office, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle personal injury accident in the 600 block of County Road 400 West.

Sheriff's deputies say the driver of a black motorcycle, 21-year-old Batu Yalcin of West Lafayette, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

Yalcin was thrown from the motorcycle as it left the roadway and crashed through a wood fence.

Investigators also say Yalcin was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but still sustained severe internal injuries and was transported from the scene to St. Elizabeth East Hospital.

She was later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The accident remains under investigation, but speed and unfamiliarity with the roadway appear to be factors, according to sheriff's deputies.

Drugs and alcohol to not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
