Monticello fire causes $300k damage

Firefighters battled a fire at the Emerson Plant

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - Firefighters battled a fire at the Emerson Plant overnight.

According to the Monticello Fire Department, the fire was located in a chip grinding machine and involved oil soaked metal chips and shavings.

While the fire did produce a large amount of smoke, the fire was contained inside the machine.

The fire caused an evacuation of all Emerson third shift workers and caused an estimated $300,000 in damages.

There were no injuries. The plant is expected to be back in operation by 9:00 a.m. this morning.
