LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Congressman Mike Pence made a stop in Lafayette Saturday morning as part of his campaign for Indiana governor.

Pence was the keynote speaker for the Tippecanoe County Republican Women's Club's annual meeting. The Republican candidate said he's been traveling the state since he announced his plans to run for governor last year.

He said he doesn't want the campaign to be about him, but rather what he believes is "Indiana's moment."

"Why we sense an excitement and an expectation everywhere we go in Indiana, is because people feel and believe that we're, in this state, on the verge of an era of growth and opportunity like no other in our lifetime," said Pence.

Fishers businessman Jim Wallace has said he also plans to run for the Republican nomination for Indiana governor. Former Indiana House Speaker John Gregg plans to run for the Democratic nomination. And Reality TV star and "Survivor" champ Rupert Boneham is running as a Libertarian.
