WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - West Lafayette police discovered a meth lab in a motel and arrested two people early Tuesday morning.
Two West Lafayette police officers were on a routine patrol around 3 a.m. Tuesday when they noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the back of the Prestige Inn at 1217 Sagamore Parkway West.
The officers found the odor was coming from a lone motel room upon further inspection.
Officers made contact with the occupants of the room and after becoming confident there was a meth lab running inside, they detained the occupants and executed a search warrant.
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was contacted to help with the clean-up and processing of the lab.
Police arrested 31-year-old Brandon Bulthuis of Lake Station and 38-year-old Penny Osmundson of Lafayette.
Both were charged with manufacturing meth within 1,000 feet of a family housing complex, possession of meth within 1,000 feet of a family housing complex, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of precursors, and possession of marijuana under 30 grams.
Both were booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.
