LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A local mechanic has been recognized by a national magazine for his work.

Travis Lee, a mechanic for the Lafayette Fleet Maintenance department, is one of five finalists for Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) of the year by Fire Chief Magazine.

On Thursday, friends and co-workers along with members of the police and fire departments got together to celebrate Travis' nomination.

“It's an honor really,” Lee said. “I'm very surprised to get it, very happy. Happy to get it and proud of our whole staff here.

“It takes a special set of skills, a special set of dedication and commitment,” Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski said. “It's really a great honor for Travis, but really says a lot about our community, about our fleet maintenance facility and the pride that people take in their work here.”

Lee has been with fleet maintenance since 2002 and is also a volunteer EVT for Indiana District 4 Task Force.

Lee will find out if he won in January.
