WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Mayor John Dennis made his State of the City address Monday night.

Dennis highlighted the work of all his departments in 2012.

He recognized the 24,197 calls the police department responded to. He then followed by recognizing the 1,785 calls the fire department responded to.

Dennis added that the engineering department saw more than $64 million of investments, the highest construction dollars the city has ever seen.

Dennis said he is looking forward to the future. In that future, he sees annexation.

"We've been in conversation about trying to grow the size of the city. With our small geographic footprint and the density of our population, we're the most densely populated city in the state of Indiana. We have no option. There's nowhere else to put any more development," Dennis stated.

Also Monday night, Investigator Troy Greene was awarded as Police Officer of the Year. Numerous volunteers were also recognized for their work in the community.
