DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) - A young man trying to break a world record came through the area Friday.

Matt Eddy is driving his wheelchair across the country from Boston to Los Angeles. He holds the Guiness Book world record for fastest time to make a trans-USA trip by wheelchair.

He made stops in Delphi and Lafayette Friday afternoon.

Eddy suffers from muscular dystrophy. It causes the rapid weakening of the body's muscles.

Eddy says he thought it would be fun to ride his wheelchair to California, but that wasn't the only reason.

"I was also doing it to help my charity, Matt's Place. We want to raise awareness for severe physical disabilities, like what I have," Eddy said.

By the end of the trip Eddy hopes to raise $1 million so young people with disabilities can live more independently.
