TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A man was ejected from his vehicle early Saturday morning, after deputies said he crashed his car into a utility pole.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette Police Department responded to the crash around 3:40 a.m. on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, just west of the US Highway 52 South intersection.
According to deputies, a gray BMW, driven by William Robinson VII, was traveling east bound on Veterans Memorial Parkway, and failed to properly negotiate a curve as it approached US 52 .
When deputies arrived, they found Robinson had been ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing his seatbelt. The front seat passenger, Brian Jordan, was wearing his seatbelt.
Due to the crash, power lines were knocked onto the vehicle, and units waited for Duke Energy to arrive to safely remove Jordan.
Deputies said both men were transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital. Robinson suffered severe injuries, and was later flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. Jordan was treated for his injuries at the hospital.
The Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to assist in the investigation. It appears speed was a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol may also have been a factor.
