JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A crash on Interstate 65 leaves one man dead after a semi backed up after missing an exit.
The crash happened just after 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 near mile marker 205 near Remington.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Ann Wojas said a semi driven by 50-year-old Sayid Ama Ikar of Greensboro, North Carolina was traveling southbound in the right lane and missed his exit. Ikar stopped his semi, put it in reverse, and backed the truck up toward the exit.
Another semi, driven by 44-year-old James Jones of Indianapolis, was also traveling southbound in the right lane when he hit the rear of Ikar's truck. Wojas said Jones sustained major blunt force trauma to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ikar and his passenger, 23-year-old Abbdirahman Sayid Ama, also of North Carolina, were taken to Jasper County Hospital with complaints of pain. Both were treated and released.
Ikar was then taken to the Jasper County Jail where he is facing a preliminary charge of involuntary manslaughter. Ama was also taken to the jail and is facing a preliminary charge of obstruction of justice.
The interstate was closed for several hours while crews cleared the road.
