NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Blowing and drifting snow may be to blame for a fatal crash involving two semis in Newton County Wednesday.

It happened around 2:40 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 24 and County Road 600 East.

Sheriff's deputies said one of the semis, driven by Richard Grammer, 73, of Carbondale, Ill., was driving east on 24 when, due to the road conditions, his truck crossed into the westbound lane. That's when Grammer's truck was hit by a semi driven by Ronnie Woodby, 45, of Milford, Ill.

Deputies said Woodby was ejected from his truck and later died at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. Grammer also went to the hospital with broken leg and bruises.

Investigators said both trailers were empty. Damage was estimated at more than $100,000.
