Man arrested at gunpoint after chase

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Deputies removed a driver at gunpoint Tuesday evening on Sagamore Parkway after they said a Lafayette man tried to run a deputy off the road.

50-year-old Rick Leslie was charged with resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness with a vehicle.

The officer involved in the incident, Tippecanoe County deputy sheriff Andrew Heath, said Leslie pulled up next to him on State Road 26 and intentionally tried to swerve into his vehicle.

Heath said Leslie was shouting profanities and making inappropriate gestures.

When Heath tried to pull over Leslie, he drove off along Sagamore Parkway through a car lot, before eventually pulling over on Sagamore just north of State Road 38.

"By the time I got him stopped, he made a lot more movements into the vehicle, and I wasn't really sure what was going to happen," Deputy Andrew Heath said.  "As far as if he had weapons in the car or anything else like that, I didn't know, so I radioed for more units and we got him out of the car at gun point,"

Leslie was taken to the Tippecanoe County jail where he was later released.
