LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - Residents of a city celebrated a very special birthday this weekend. It was 175 years ago a small town in Cass County became the city of Logansport.

Feb. 17 is a special day for people of Logansport. It marks the day Logansport became a city back in 1838 and now 175 years later, festivities are kicking off with a Founder's Day extravaganza.

"Organizations and businesses throughout the area are encouraged to host 175th celebrations throughout the year to commemorate the anniversary,” Cass County Communication Network’s Michelle Dials said. “And the Founders Day Extravaganza was a partnership between Mid-America Radio and Cass County Communication Network to kick that off."

"We have all kinds of great stuff planned for this year and this is just sort of the first of that because today is the actual Founders Day and this is the kick off for the rest of the year,” Mid-America Radio’s Matthew Paul said. “It's going to be fun."

No party is complete without cake and presents. Local businesses came together to raffle off an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas!

Event organizer Dials says community members at the celebration will go down in history.

"We've got banners people can sign that we're going to donate to the historical society so that people can say we're here and participated in it,” Dials said. “So it's just really exciting to be able to be a part of that."

Paul says many people are excited about the big year for the city.

"It feels great because it's such a great community, it's such a great town, it's such a great city and to see the people come out and celebrate it with us is fantastic," Paul said.

Festivities will continue as part of a year-long celebration for the city.
