Logansport announces sister school agreement

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - The city of Logansport is forming a sister school agreement with China.

The city will be visited by a delegation from the Zhejiang province this week. All seven Logansport schools will be paired with a school from the province. The agreements will be formally signed Wednesday at a formal dinner at Logansport High School.

The first initiative will see a teacher exchange program, seeing the Logansport teachers focusing on English and the Zhejiang teachers on math, science and arts.

Area leaders say they are excited about the possibilities.

"We talk about, 'What will this do for us and what will it do for our students?' And I think that's what we're always all about. What opportunities can we give our students to get a leg up as they leave us and go out into the world someday?" said Superintendent Michele Starkey.

"Economic times have been tough and hard and we've really prided ourselves on doing what's best for our students and continuing to expand programs with less money. We feel like we've done a really good job of doing more with less," said Starkey.

"We're so thrilled to see this first step that happens to be with the schools. We're hoping to develop even further relationships with, for example, our hospital," said Mayor Ted Franklin.

Future plans could include sending a Logansport basketball team to China.
