West Point, Ind. (WLFI) - A great way to enjoy the outdoors this summer is closer than you
may think.
Whether you want to go for a leisurely stroll, a more fast
paced-trot or a canter. There's a horse at Double H Farm for
every skill level.
"Anybody that has an interest in horses, and wants to
learn. We do anything from kids to adults," said Nadia
Heffner.
Double H Horse Farm has an inside arena for riding during cold or rainy days as well as outside arenas and pastures. Owner Nadia Heffner said there nothing quite like riding a horse.
"I think it's really enjoyable, it's a way to relax and get into
the country and out of the city and out of the work life.
They are just great animals to bond with, and a lot of learning
experiences you can have with them," said Heffner.
Learning is what rider Sara Dunco said she hopes her horse,
Rocky, can do.
"He's smart, but sometimes doesn't know how to use it. And, stubborn," said Dunco.
But, even so, Rocky remains close to her heart.
"He can be fun at times, but other times you can get really frustrated with him. But, once you work through those then you are like best pals," said Dunco.
Laurie Adams rode horses when she was young, but went without riding for almost 15 years. She said it was easy to get back on the saddle.
"It's great riding now, I wish I would have done it earlier instead of waiting so long. Life circumstances don't always let you do what you want to do, and I would suggest anybody that rides would continue to ride," said Adams.
Other riders like the fact that riding horses takes teamwork.
"It's such a team sport. It's not you telling him what to do, its two working together. It's like being able to form two roles and two hearts into one goal. It's really fun though," said Siena Cooper.
Alicia Batta instructor said horseback riding also offers a fun way to exercise.
