WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Airport will soon be host to one of the military's most technologically advanced unmanned aerial vehicles.

The RQ-4 Global Hawk is used by the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft.

It is capable of surveying large areas of land while cruising at altitudes of more than 60,000 feet.

Northrop Grumman makes the Global Hawk.

Representative Randy Crawford says safety is a driving factor in the production of an aircraft like the Global Hawk.

"The pilot gets up after this mission gets out of his car and drives home and he's been flying a mission 14,000 miles away...out of harm's way. You can't fault the reliability...the safety factor," said Crawford.

The plane will be available for public viewing Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th from 8:00 AM until 7 PM at the Purdue University Airport.

Admission is free.
