TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County has identified the area's most dangerous intersections for 2008.
State Road 26 East and Creasy Lane had 43 crashes, making it the highest in number of crashes.
Following it are Sagamore Parkway and State Road 26.
Area Plan Commission Assistant Director John Thomas said those are typically the high crash intersections.
He hopes the data will lead to solutions in reducing those crash numbers, but there are some difficulties.
"Part of the problem with making improvements to our highway systems based on the crash reports is that most of the intersections involved in the crash reports, identified in the crash reports as high accident locations, are all on the state system," said Thomas. "So the local engineers don't have a lot of intersections that they are soley responsible for. But we will be talking with the Indiana Department of Transportation as well as Lafayette, West Lafayette and the county about how they can use this and how we can provide more information to them to better define what the problems are."
The report indicates 25 fewer crashes in 2008 compared to 2007, as well as 7 fewer fatal crashes.
