ROSSVILLE, Ind (WLFI) - About 100 people attended the Tea Party, organized by a dozen Clinton and Carroll County residents. Speakers, including Matthew Turner of the Victory Christian Academy in Kokomo encouraged the crowd to become more politically active.
"We're not in a fight that involves armed conflict, or violence of any kind. I speak of a fight for the hearts and the minds of the citizens of this nation. Like the civil rights fight led by the reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior. We need to reeducate our citizens about the foundations of this nation," Turner said.
Donn Brown, of Citizens In Action, called on the crowd to support Congressman Joe Wilson, who called president Barack Obama a liar, during his healthcare reform speech on the House floor.
"I think he was totally out of line for doing what he did, however, he was right on the nose, he was right on the money with that comment. And, as far as I know he's getting close to two million dollars in donations since that day, so I urge you to go to his website and make a donation," Brown said.
Turner said two of the country's biggest problems are the media and education systems. "Both institutions have been abandoned by Christians and successfully taken over by leftists that are intent on re-making this nation. The mainstream media is obviously on the side of our current president and his administration," Turner said.
"Our education system is hostile to our Christian heritage and free market foundation," he said.
Tea Party organizer Erica Wallace said the event drew people from much of northern Indiana. "We had some people from Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, and from North Judson, and then we had some local people. I counted about 100 people here," Wallace said.
Wallace said the Tea Party was intended to get the attention of politicans. Turner sees it as the beginning of a long process.
"Most importantly, we need to help people see the wisdom in Christian principles over humanistic philosophies instead of the almight Creator, God. I other words, we must win the culture war that is raging in our nation," Turner said.
Wallace said the Rossville Tea Party will hold future meetings, though none are set yet.
