LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Subaru of Indiana Automotive reached a milestone in production on Tuesday.

Confetti filled the air and cheers came from employees at the auto plant when the 3 millionth vehicle rolled off the assembly line: a 2010 Subaru Outback.

Senior Vice President of SIA Tom Easterday said it's a goal the company didn't expect to reach so soon.

"It was unexpected to have the three millionth vehicle built this month. We had projected, based on our production volumed from the beginning of the year, that it would be sometime in mid October. But, with the overtime that we have been working, plus Saturdays, we had to move that date up for the three millionth vehicle," said Easterday.

The SUV will remain at SIA.
