LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An area of Lafayette was barricaded today as police investigated a report that shots had been fired.

Police said the incident began when an innocent pedestrian was walking down Euclid Avenue in Lafayette. Police said a shot grazed the pedestrian's arm and the pedestrian heard multiple other shots fired.

Not knowing what sort of weapon had been involved, the pedestrian called police.

Police have now stated that the weapon involved was a BB gun. They believe the individual firing the weapon was standing on a toilet inside 2432 Euclid Avenue and fired the weapon out of a window at the pedestrian.

Police responded to the report with caution, not knowing what sort of weapon had been involved. They barricaded the surrounding area. News Channel 18 reporter Julie Krizen was on the scene and said she saw police with rifles drawn entering several homes behind the barricade.

Police called the people inside the house at 2431 Euclid Avenue and convinced them to surrender to police. Shortly after 1:30 p.m. two individuals voluntarily exited the house. They were taken into police custody for questioning. One was later released. The other, 18-year-old Ryan A. Cunningham, was arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.

Police said the woman who owns 2432 Euclid Avenue had taken in the two individuals questioned by police and allowed them to stay with her, but is not related to them.

The pedestrian refused medical treatment on the scene.

Police said the area is now safe and the roads have been re-opened.

Several schools were placed on lockdown for the duration of this incident, including Miami Elementary, Tecumseh Junior High, Jefferson High School, Edgelea, and Durgan Day Care. These schools are now off lockdown.
