LAFAYETTE - Last year, the Salvation Army served 425 families during the holidays.
It has 500 families in need of assistance this year.
With the demand for help up, so is the fundraising goal this year... by $7000.
This year's goal is $325,000.
Because United Way didn't make its goal this year, the Salvation Army is expecting a drop of about $15,000.
Nelson De La Vergne said, "I have confidence that we are going to meet what is needed. Whatever the level is, that's where we'll work from. We'll do what we can with those dollars."
Audrey Schneider said, "We are seeing greater needs out there. We are trying to help more people, so we need to aim high and as people are able we know that they will help out."
The Salvation Army will have 15 sites for donations though out
the community.
Collections end on December 24.
