LAFAYETTE, Ind (WLFI) - A new company in Lafayette is already taking calls.

Alorica Incorporated handles customer care and tech support through a call center.  Vice President of Operations Jay McAdoo said more than 100 people have already been hired. He said the center is already operating with 35 employees making calls.

"Our intention always when we come into a community, when we spend money on a facility and ramp up a site, our intention is long term, so we really feel like at this point, minimum of 600 agents that we'll have here, but we also left room to grow," said McAdoo.

Alorica opened the doors of its new 49,000 square foot facility at 181 Sagamore Parkway South, Lafayette. The building used to house the Silent Thunder go-kart track.

Mayor Tony Roswarski took part in Friday's celebration and ribbon-cutting. "This celebration is an important milestone in our community," said Roswarski. "Partnering with Alorica, we are creating new jobs in difficult economic times. The new Alorica employees are taking home paychecks, supporting their families, staring new careers and are looking toward the future. All of us working together are helping to create new opportunities in our community."

McAdoo said these jobs will have an impact on the community. "It's going to mean a lot," said McAdoo. "I think you see the residual effects of that. You see people with jobs and they go out and they purchase, so it helps not only those individuals but the community itself, so we're proud to be here we feel like this is going to be a great center for us."

600 employees hired by January. McAdoo also leaves open the possibility of expansion.

Alorica is using the services of Tecumseh Area Partnership's REACH Center to screen applicants and facilitate interviews.
