LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The United Way announced that 11 new givers have pledged another $2,500 toward its  goal.

United Way of Greater Lafayette set its 2009 campaign goal at $5 million.  Earlier this week the organization announced it may fall short of that goal.  With the tough economy and many jobs lost in the past year United Way campaign is struggling.

The good news is that new numbers announced by campaign volunteers Thursday evening have increased since Monday, but more money is still needed.

If United Way does not reach $5 million, organizations it  supports could lose some funding.  Those organizations include the Boys and Girls Club, Senior CareAVan, and the Crisis Center.

Campaign Chairman Tony Albrecht said, "If only 10% of people who don't give donate $11 a month, the financial goal would be met."
