A little less than three weeks from now, before it is time to sit down to their Thanksgiving feast, runners will be lacing up running shoes to take to the road in Attica.

Seeing the need and making a difference: that is what an Attica High School Junior is up to.

Sam Crane started volunteering at the Food Pantry in Attica this past summer. The 70 to 80 families that walked through the door made an impression on him.

"Every time they left they would always say 'Thank you' and were always real appreciative," said Sam. "It just makes you feel good for doing something."

What Sam did is set up a race - the 2009 Attica Turkey Trot - with the proceeds going to put more food on pantry shelves.

Food Pantry volunteer Irene Harmeson was surprised to see so much effort from this young man.

"I think it's a big undertaking for a young man to step up and do that, after he just came and volunteered this summer, then took on this project when he saw the need that we have," said Harmeson.

He made the calls and he got the clearance from the city to have the race on Thanksgiving morning. Sam said he has only one goal: to raise as much money as possible.

Sam said if this years Turkey Trot is a success, he would like to make it an annual event.
