INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - It is opening weekend of an newly extended Indiana State Fair. Meaning 17 full day to visit the barns, exhibits and of course, eat some food.
Ask anyone attending the Indiana State Fair and chances are good they have a favorite fair treat. 2009 has been named the Year of the Tomatoes The Signature Item this year is Urick's Concessions' Deep Fried Pizza.
Another signature item at this year's fair: pizza cone. It allows fair goers mobility while enjoying their favorite treat. But tomatoes aren't the only thing on the menu.
No pigging around, it is chocolate-covered bacon. Blake Reas said the "Pigs in the Mud" has been a surprising success.
"I figured people would hear it and be like, oh, that sounds awful but they have actually been like yeah, let's try it and then they love it. We haven't had any complaints," Reas said.
Of course there are the returning favorites like the Dairy Barn and Pork Tent. The tents showcase Hoosier livestock products and keep fair goers coming back every year.
"I like the Dairy Barn with the milkshakes and the grilled cheese," Tom Robertson said.
Fair goers will likely find the food of their dreams here, it is
just a matter of finding the time to eat it all.
